Mini Meadows, a Tiny Home community in rural Central Florida, is home to Emma Wells, a downsize specialist who left her daddy’s mansion and her inheritance behind in favor of a simpler, more peaceful life in a tiny home that was once two shipping containers. But when she opens a shipping container and discovers her dead client sitting in a rocking chair, neatly wrapped and labeled, and two of her friends end up on the suspect list, Emma pitches in to help find the killer. With plenty of clues to unpack, Emma narrows down the suspect list, but as she begins to close in on the culprit, she realizes if she’s not careful she could end up in a box of her own.
About the Character Guest Post
Hi, I’m Emma Wells, and I’m happy to be here with you today. First, for a brief history, I grew up in my grandfather’s mansion, which passed on to my father when Grandfather passed away. He left strict instructions for my father to take care of the women, meaning Granny Rose and me. Unfortunately, my father’s idea of taking care of me was to betroth me to Bartholomew Prendergast, a nice enough guy but not someone I want to spend the rest of my life with. So, I refused and moved out of the mansion and into a tiny home made from two shipping containers stacked on top of one another. I even adopted Ginger, the stray cat who came with the home. Then I started my own business as a downsize specialist. And I couldn’t be happier.
Now I spend my days helping others to downsize from larger homes to smaller residences, tiny homes, condos, etc… and my life is quiet, calm and peaceful, just the way I like it. My friends, Chloe and Jade, and I often make chocolate chip popcorn and sit out on my mini-sundeck to watch new residents move in. It’s always fun to try to guess who is going to stick it out and who is going to run screaming back to their old way of life.
I usually love my work, but occasionally I get a difficult client — as was the case with Broderick Aldridge. Mr. Aldridge refused to take any but the most basic of his wife’s belongings when they moved to his newly refurbished caboose home in Mini-Meadows, the tiny home development where I live. Not only was my rudest client moving into my neighborhood, he was going to live four mini lots down from me. At least, he was before he ended up tagged and labeled in his storage container.
Now, instead of spending my days peacefully going about my business, I have to investigate Broderick’s death to clear a number of my friends who ended up on the suspect list.
And if that wasn’t enough, Granny Rose (at least, the new teeny bopper version of my grandmother) showed up on my doorstep and announced she was moving in — with Butch, her newly adopted Great Dane. Sadly, once she arrived and realized how boring my life was — her words, I preferred to think of it as content — she recruited my two best friends and set out to find me a husband. I guess you could say I’m having a bit of a week.
