The world’s her oyster…until someone is stabbed with her shucking knife.
With a struggling pearl party business, sisters Kelly and Jodi Silverman are thrilled to land a weekend long jewelry party at a large estate. But the gothic house, complete with its weeping woman fountain, gives Kelly a bad vibe.
A nasty storm strands them at the spooky mansion. And when the birthday gal is found with Kelly’s shucking knife poking from her chest, they’re not only stuck in the creepy house with a murderer roaming the halls but Kelly’s accused of the crime.
Can Kelly and Jodi piece together the limited clues, prove their innocence and stay alive? Or will this pearl party be their last?
If you love comedy mystery a la Clue, you’ll love Murder of Pearl, Book 1 in the Pearl Party Cozy Mystery series!
About the Character Interview
Please join me in welcoming Jodi Silverman to Jane Reads today. Thank you so much for visiting, Jodi!
What is your occupation? Are you any good at it? I work at a craft store. On top of that, I work with my sister, Kelly, for Pearls Unlimited. We sell pearl jewelry. Kelly shucks the oysters, I handle the orders. I’m good at it! I love keeping track of everything.
What is your ideal job? My ideal job? Hmm…socialite? Haha, just kidding. I could be a CEO though. I think I have the organization skills.
When you’re not working, what fills your time? I love to shop! It’s so fun to discover something great on the clearance rack. It’s like a bonus gift because you get a great piece of clothing on sale!
What is your favorite childhood memory? I have fun memories of playing “store” with Kelly. It’s probably why we do so well in business together. I was good at both the shopping part and the sales part.
What advice would you give to your younger self? Don’t give up! Keep going and always look on the bright side. Good things come when you least expect it.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you? Hmmm. Once my sister almost wore a sweater dress to a cocktail party. Thankfully, I had another dress for her to change into. Otherwise, that would have been really embarrassing.
What is your greatest achievement? Landing a HUGE weekend long pearl party at Willow Lake Estate. Our pearl business does okay, but this party is HUGE! Hundreds of oysters ordered! It was my crowning achievement as Kelly’s party scheduler.
What makes you laugh? Kelly! We get along really well, and she always knows how to make me laugh even if I’m in a horrible mood.
What is your greatest extravagance? Clothes. I love clothes. I love buying clothes mostly. I will have places to wear all of the clothes I buy eventually. I just have to figure out how I’ll get invited to all these places.
What is your pet peeve? The oysters. They stink. Okay, I know we run a pearl party business. And yes, shucking oysters is the biggest part of that business but yuck! Do they smell! I can smell them all the way across the room most times. It really turns me off the pearl jewelry because every time I see a pearl, I think of that smell.
What is always in your fridge? Ice cream (well, in the freezer, technically). Both Kelly and I love ice cream. Chocolate is my favorite.
If your life is made into a movie, is it a comedy or drama? Who plays you? I’d say drama and I’d love to be played by Jennifer Lawrence.
What is your favorite movie? TV show? My favorite movie is The Princess Bride. And my favorite TV show is Stranger Things.
What is your favorite song, and why? My favorite song is Jessie’s Girl. I love Rick Springfield and I always sing along whenever it’s on the radio. It’s so catchy.
What did you eat for breakfast? Did you make it yourself? I had toast, yes, I made it myself. If I didn’t have to make it myself, I’d have had something way better.
Describe your perfect day. When I wake up, breakfast is made and waiting for me. After I eat, I take a long walk before I come back to the house and read for a few hours with a hot cup of tea. I have lunch on a sunny patio before hitting the pool for some laps in the afternoon, then settle down for a movie night with popcorn.
Of course, I don’t have a cook, or a pool, or all those morning hours to read, but a girl can dream, right?
Absolutely! I dream about a perfect day like that for myself.
I've enjoyed getting to know a little about you. Thanks again for your visit!
