The Review

Learning the Secret Language of Cats, written by veterinarian Dr Carol Teed, is an interesting, informative guidebook to cats. With 23 years of veterinary experience, and many beloved cats past and present in her life, Dr Teed has many amusing anecdotes about patients and pets that she has included in her book. These anecdotes are among my favorite parts of the books.

Among the information from Learning the Secret Language of Cats that I learned, and found to be very interesting and informative are: 

• Dr Teed's advice about Veterinary Medicine as a career choice.
• Adding an additional cat to your household.
• The problems that indoor cats face because they live indoors only.
• The problems that outdoor cats face, and balancing the risks of indoor vs outdoor life.
• The causes for the high cost of veterinary services, and the need for cat owners to obtain pet insurance.
• Information about the diet cats need for good health, because cats are strictly carnivores.  

Dr Teed writes in a clear, interesting way. The book is arranged well, and is easy to follow. The book's table of contents, plus some excerpts, can be seen on the author's website. Anyone who is owned by one or more cats would enjoy reading Learning the Secret Language of Cats by Dr Carol Teed, and would benefit from the information it contains. I refer to it frequently, whenever I have a question or concern about cats that Maxie refuses to answer.  

Maxie and I enjoyed reading Learning the Secret Language of Cats. We recommend it to cat lovers everywhere.

About Dr Carol Teed, DVM

Dr. Carol Teed graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 1990. She spent most of her career in feline specialty practice where she became fluent in the mysterious language of cats. While observing cats through their accelerated life cycle, she became fascinated by their ability to bring positive change to the lives of those they interact with. She currently lives in rural Niagara, Ontario, Canada with her husband, four children, two dogs and three cats. She is working on her second book and always has a cat on her lap and two looking over her shoulder.
