Murder, She Floats By Rachael Stapleton | Book Blast with Review and Giveaway

The Blurb

It's the end of the summer and Journalist Penelope Trubble has returned home to help her father with the Private Eye business. With a contest prize of ten thousand dollars on the line, the town is full of summer vacationers on the hunt for the rare 1913 Liberty Head nickel that was lost to Bohemian Lake over fifty years ago.

With the help of spitfire local Eve Berns, and Cody Lumos, the town's handsome new detective, amateur sleuth Lucky Penny takes the bait and goes diving for the story behind the legend of the million dollar coin. Unfortunately, her dive turns up more bodies than missing treasure. The deeper she digs, the more secrets she finds hidden in the sand, but will she be buried along with them?

The Review

I just read a good book, y'all — Murder, She Floats by Rachael Stapleton, which is the first book in the Penning Trouble Mysteries. Let me tell you a little about it.

Murder, She Floats stars Penelope "Lucky Penny" Trubble, former police officer, current journalist and private detective for her dad's PI firm in Bohemian Lake, Ontario. The supporting cast includes Rebel Rouse (Penelope's BFF since grade school), Rebel's hubby Leif, Ben Baboon (Penelope's high school nemesis), new-in-town Detective Cody Lumos, baker / barista Pike (at Cookies & Corsets Café), Eve Berns (60-ish, determined to help with the investigations, and not above a little blackmail to make it happen), and the Vianus  Mallory, Dani, and Nana ("a tornado in pearls")  of Gypsy Caravan Resort. My favorite characters are Rebel, Eve, and Nana.

Murder, She Floats is a fun, quick read. The mystery turns out to be about more than just a missing nickel. I was drawn in from the beginning, and couldn't put the book down. Author Rachael Stapleton kept me guessing until the end. The conclusion left me looking forward to Book 2 in the Penning Trouble Mysteries, Murder, She Slopes, which is due December 2017.

Author Rachael Stapleton has two other series coming out soon. Both are set in Bohemian Lake, and contain characters from Murder, She Floats
  • The Haunted House Flippers Inc. series debuts in October 2017 with Cookies, Corpses and the Deadly Haunt. Chapter One is included at the end of Murder, She FloatsPike Hart, baker / barista at Cookies & Corsets Café, is a crossover character in the chapter.
  • The Bohemian Murder Manor Mysteries debut in 2018 with Gypsies, Traps & Missing Thieves and Make-Believes & Lost Memories. Nana, Dani and Mallory Vianu are the main and crossover characters.

I like Murder, She Floats, and recommend it to fans of cozy mysteries everywhere. I think the world of Bohemian Lake will have special appeal to those who are fans of the Danger Cove and Aloha Lagoon series by Gemma Halliday Publishing. I enjoyed Murder, She Floats by Rachael Stapleton, and grant it Three Kitties.
