The Blurb
The first novel in a frisky new mystery series set in a small New England town, where an unlikely citizen is called in to solve the purrfect crime...
Maddie James has arrived in Daybreak Island, just off the coast of Massachusetts, eager to settle down and start her own business — and maybe even fall in love. When a stray orange tabby pounces into her life, she’s inspired to open a cat café. But little does Maddie know that she’s in for something a lot more catastrophic when her new furry companion finds the dead body of the town bully. Now all eyes are on Maddie: Who is this crazy cat-whisperer lady who’s come to town? If pet-hair-maintenance and crime-fighting weren’t keeping her busy enough, Maddie now has not one but two eligible bachelors who think she’s the cat’s pajamas... and will do anything to win her heart. But how can she even think about happily-ever-after while a killer remains on the loose — and on her path?

The Review
Cat About Town captured my attention from the first paragraph, with its detailed description of JJ the cover cat, as the cat spies on the main character Maddie throughout the funeral for her grandmother. Maddie is quite relatable and easy to like. She has an outstanding supporting cast, including best friend Becky and several potential romantic interests.
The mystery in Cat About Town is interesting and plausible. I was surprised by whodunit (although I realized afterwards that I had noticed a clue to his/her identity, and just didn't follow through on it). Speaking of town, I like the small-town setting of Daybreak Island.
I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next to Maddie, her friends, and JJ the cat. The ending of Cat About Town is very cozy, and a wonderful setup for future books in the series.
I recommend Cat About Town to all fans of cozy mysteries and cat mysteries. I think it will have special appeal to readers who are fans of Liz Mugavero's Pawsitively Organic Mysteries, and anyone who has ever tried to walk a cat on a leash.
I enjoyed Cat About Town by Cate Conte, and grant it Three Kitties!
