In the latest Pink Carnation novel from national bestselling author Lauren Willig, rumors spreading among the ton turn deadly as a young couple unites to solve a mystery....
In October of 1806, the Little Season is in full swing, and Sally Fitzhugh has had enough of the endless parties and balls. With a rampant vampire craze sparked by the novel The Convent of Orsino, it seems no one can speak of anything else. But when Sally hears a rumor that the reclusive Duke of Belliston is an actual vampire, she cannot resist the challenge of proving such nonsense false. At a ball in Belliston Square, she ventures across the gardens and encounters the mysterious Duke.
Lucien, Duke of Belliston, is well versed in the trouble gossip can bring. He’s returned home to dispel the rumors of scandal surrounding his parents’ deaths, which hint at everything from treason to dark sorcery. While he searches for the truth, he welcomes his fearsome reputation—until a woman is found dead in Richmond. Her blood drained from her throat.
Lucien and Sally join forces to stop the so-called vampire from killing again. Someone managed to get away with killing the last Duke of Belliston. But they won’t kill this duke—not if Sally has anything to say about it.

My Teaser

"They say he sucks the blood of unwary maidens."
Agnes considered this. "I imagine they're less trouble than wary ones."

Too Much Blood, by Jane Bennett Munro

The synopsis (from Goodreads):

It is the middle of the night when pathologist Toni Day receives a call from the coroner informing her that the notoriously sleazy local attorney, Jay Braithwaite Burke, has just been found dead in his Mercedes in the middle of a snowy interstate. Unfortunately, everyone at Perrine Memorial Hospital where Toni works knows Burke. Over the years, he managed to talk nearly the entire medical staff into investing into his hedge fund. After it was revealed they had all foolishly invested in a Ponzi scheme, the feds moved in and he disappeared. Now, two months later, Toni is about to perform his autopsy.

It is no secret around town that many might have wished the attorney dead, including Toni and her husband, Hal. As she delves into Burke's autopsy, Toni already knows they have few clues to go on; when she learns the man bled to death, she suspects it was a homicide. To complicate matters further, Burke's partner also dies in suspicious circumstances, and Burke's widow and children are left homeless by a series of house fires. With a brutal schedule and doubts about her husband's faithfulness, Toni's life is already complex enough.

But when a mysterious illness casts a bloody pall over the holiday season, Toni must rely on her pathological expertise to unmask a killer and rescue herself and everyone she loves from a bloody death.

The teaser (page 136):

"Okay," I said.  "And we don't want to run into somebody we know because ...?"
"Because we don't want anyone to think we're having an affair."
"And we don't want to do that, do we?" I said.  "Because we're just two friends having lunch and talking about murder."

Teaser Tuesday (July 2), Cedar Hollow

Cedar Hollow
Cedar Hollow, by Tracey Smith

The Synopsis (from Goodreads):

Cassidy St. Claire still wasn't sure what she'd been hoping to find when she began the search for her birth parents, but all she’d uncovered was a bunch of death certificates and one ailing great-uncle who’d finally kicked the bucket last week. Since Cassidy is the last surviving member of the family that means his estate, a small seaside bed and breakfast in New Hampshire, has been left to her. An odd stipulation in his Will requires that she appear in person to inherit the property. Cassidy isn't very hopeful that this weekend trip will lead to anything more than a momentary distraction from her busy life, and an excuse to take her convertible for a long drive up the coast.
She certainly isn't prepared for Mr. Tall Handsome and Brooding; Ben Riley has been running the bed and breakfast for the last several years, and he is definitely less than welcoming. His instant dislike for her is staggering, but his penetrating green eyes burn with a dangerous mixture of hostility and attraction.
Within days of her arrival an attempt is made on her life and then another. Suddenly Cassidy finds herself trying to unravel the mysteries of the past, while outrunning the dangers of the present and finally turning to the strong, protective arms of Ben Riley and a future she'd never imagined.

The Teaser (at 38%):

"Have you ever stopped to wonder, why you are the only surviving member of your family?", he surprised her by asking.  "Because I have.  Every member of your natural family has died of unnatural causes, and it hasn't escaped my notice that you've been rather accident-prone since you got here."

The Teaser (at 40% of Kindle edition):

“So is Montgomery the closest city?” Cassidy asked.
“The closest with a hospital.”
“I was thinking more along the lines of a shopping mall.”
“Oh, yeah, they have one of those too.”

The speculation:

I think Cassidy's talking to a guy.  Who do you think she's talking to?

Murder under the Microscope, by Jane Bennett Munro

The synopsis:

Murder Under the Microscope is a murder mystery set in a small rural hospital in Twin Falls, Idaho. The story is told in the first person by the pathologist, Toni Day, M.D. Toni is not a forensic pathologist, not a medical examiner, and doesn't deal with murder as a rule; but in this story she finds herself not only involved, but accused, and must solve the mystery to keep herself out of jail and not get murdered herself.

"There was a dead body in my office. It wasn't mine, and I didn't put it there."

Dr. Antoinette Day, a young and successful pathologist in a small rural hospital, had no idea what she was in for when a beautiful female general surgeon came to the hospital to fill in for a colleague recovering from a heart attack. The newcomer makes Toni's life a living hell while taking every opportunity to discredit her with her other medical colleagues. When the surgeon is conveniently murdered, Toni is the obvious suspect, especially since the body is found in her office.
Now Toni finds herself in the position of having to solve the murder to keep from being convicted of it herself. The last thing she needs is to have a former boyfriend show up and start stalking her and threatening her husband. Stubbornly, Toni continues to delve into the mysteries surrounding the deceased and soon finds that it's not just her freedom that's at stake, but her life.

The teaser (from page 123):

"Personally, if I was going to kill someone, I would use a neuromuscular blocking agent.  No muss, no fuss -- you just stop breathing and that's it."

The conclusion:

We don't want to make that person mad at us, do we?
